I disagree. Indeed the photoblogs of mediocre photographers are boring. But so are the "photography blogs" of mediocre photographers. The only thing worse than someone posting a bad photo, is someone posting a bad photo, then pontificating about it. Alec Soth is one thing, but Gerry the flower photographer fresh from photokina talking about his latest DSLR appendage I can't stomach.

When I first started blogging, I was working on a series and I felt that I wanted to discuss why I was photographing this series and what I was feeling aobut it. A form of self-diagnosis I guess.

Occasionally I would add something photo technique oriented that did not seem to be currently discussed, but for the most part, wrote about my own progress.

During a recent trip to China and an on-going discussion with Miguel over at Exposure Compensation, I've started posting about other urban landscape photographers.

So please check it out; www.singularimages.wordpress.com

And drop me a line as to what ya think;- ) Feedback as to what I am trying to accomplish is good....

Best regards, Doug

You may want to add Wasted Photo's to your link collection. His photography is good, his post processing excellent and his text is usually humorous. Don't miss it.

Black and White Dreaming has some AMAZING photographs. Lots of pretty pictures but in this case, that's more than enough. See for yourself...

I like the occasional "instructional" text on how a photo was created. It's interesting seeing how other people engage the creative process to achieve their vision.

Then again, I like stories more than how-to books. And so I also like photoblogs with a (usually brief) observation about WHY they took the picture -- the inspiration, more than the f-stops and shutter speeds and tedious post-processing.

And of course, the main story is the photo itself. One would hope.

None of those alone will make the blog interesting or not, though. It's a package deal.

I'll be honest, I enjoy photo-only blogs...

In general I'm not looking for a photographer to tell me how a work was created - I can generally come up with a similar process myself...

What I'm looking for is inspiration - for a new way a photographer is looking at the world - for subjects and styles very different from my own - for emerging concepts and styles that are not yet found in museums and text books.

I like a photo to be able to stand on its own without needing words.

Cheers,
Ken

Nitsa,

Dave's blog is very good, he's a really open and helpful guy who will occasionally send an appreciative e-mail too. His site led me to Markus Hartel:

http://www.markushartel.com/blog/

This is a photoblog, but like Beckerman's web site Hartel has a section of articles that are worth a look, especially if just starting out in Photoshop.

Thanks Nitsa --

I began doing a "journal" online in 1999; the reason being that the web world seemed so empty of personalities (at least back then). I wanted to give the reader a sense of what my own life - my personal life - trying to make it as a photographer was like.

Of course now the web is filled with confessions, but the professional anything doesn't really want to tell the whole truth anymore because it hurts or could hurt the business side of things. So that's one of the current issues that I have - and that I see others having.

At any rate - yes - what I do is a blog about photography (mostly) rather than a collection of pictures. The idea is still the same as it was in the beginning - to give the viewer / reader a sense of who is at the other end of this tunnel clicking the shutter. - Dave

I like photoblogs that are just photos as well as the ones that have a little story or that share technical or artistic information. Sometimes the blogs that share information are not photoblogs at all, and, rather, they are photography blogs as Rory said. I think there is room for both and they cover different aspects of the photography spectrum.
I always try to post a little story with my photos but as I mention in the "about me" link there are other great sites that cover all the tech you ever wanted to read about or even artistic aspects, so my aim is not to write lengthy posts with my photos.

5 of the blogs that I follow, besides this one are:
The landscapist: http://landscapist.squarespace.com/
Stuck in customs: http://stuckincustoms.com
Exposure Compensation: http://www.exposurecompensation.com
Muse-ings: http://photo-muse.blogspot.com/
Conscientious: http://www.jmcolberg.com/weblog/
